Visiting a web page containing a maliciously crafted untrusted Java applet may lead to arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the current user.
These issues are addressed by updating to Java version 1.6.0_24.
Hi guys -- I got a tough one here: I use a company-specific Java app that runs fine on several machines running OS 10.3.9, 10.4.11 and 10.5.8. However, on this last one, it stopped working when on the Mac OS software update panel (the one that is built into the OS to download software) I accepted to make this update: My company's IT dept no longer supports Mac for this software, only Windows so I'm left with finding a solution by myself. So I see two options: a) Is there an app out there than can run Java programs on it's own without the need of the OS core Java components?

My understanding is to simply insert the OS 10.5 installation CD, reinstall the OS and the just keep updating it via the OS SSoftware update panel and stop untill I see the scary Java 8 update.
Is that what you meant? While you can do it that way, the combo update picks up operating system updates through a collection of releases. When dealing with operating system upgrades, I've found using the combo updates to be more reliable than Software Update, as sometimes Software Update doesn't apply updates correctly, and weird things can happen.

Then do Software Update for any other non-OS X updates, and don't apply the Java Update 8. Well, haven't been able to find a stand-alone Java app for Mac (I even sent an email to Sun and no reply). So I did an 'Archived & install' and went back from 10.5.8 to 10.4.11 (I didn't have the 10.5 CD but only a 10.4.7 one which is the one I used and then updated to 10.4.11 via the software update panel).
