Hey there, recently I purchased a Korg SP170 digital keyboard and have been enjoying it greatly. However I have no idea how to properly connect it to a computer, I have some sort of MIDI chord that has a MIDI IN and OUT plug, connected to a USB. I use this to connect to the computer in which it recognizes that my keyboard exists but I cannot for the life of me figure out if I am doing this right or not.

I Have tried many different recording softwares (free trial ones) and none of them work or they are just too complicating to use. I've used: LIVE 8.2.1, Reaper, and attempted others like audacity and what not. They were all trial versions, saying that they have all the MIDI features but their interfaces are just horrible in my opinion. However, I haven't gotten the Pro Tools Free trial yet and I have had some experience with that one but it's just a hassle to get. I may try and download that and see what I can do.

I basically want to be able to record the sound onto the Computer, I've had experience with Pro tools but that was done through an interface so i'm new to directly connecting it to the computer, and done with a specialized keyboard as well. Just to clarify - your Korg has some nice built-in sounds, but those sounds cannot be transmitted through the MIDI cable. If you want to make a recording with MIDI, you basically are just sending 'data' from your Korg to the computer (i.e, how long the notes are, how hard they are pressed, etc.). Then, on the computer, you can assign different instrument sounds to that data.
